We have visited King George V Park this week to meet judges as part of the Mansfield District Council’s application for East Midlands In Bloom.  

 

Eight members of the School’s Eco Committee walked to the Park, which is very close to the school. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the children made full use of the Park’s facilities while they waited for the judges, looking out for plants, birds, trees and wildlife. 

 

The children talked to the In Bloom judges about the different activities they have taken part in on the Park, such as designing a wood carving, sowing a wildflower meadow and planting a thirty eight tree orchard.  

 

Nicola Elliott, Winner of a Chad Best in School 2016 award for supporting the partnership between the school and the Park, says 

 

“The children we took over to the Park were a credit to the school. They talked with confidence to the judges about what we have achieved this year by working together. 

 

We wish Mansfield District Council every success with their In Bloom application and look forward to hearing about the result soon.” 

Key Stage 2 Sports Day Friday 24^th June 2016

Thank you to all of the children for a brilliant sports day at the Berry Hill Park Athletics Track.

The children were excellent and showed great teamwork skills as well as working hard individually to earn points for their team.

Congratulations to this year’s winners…green team!

Well done Green Team, the Key Stage 2 Sports Day trophy will be wearing the green ribbons until we do it all again next year!

A BIG thank you to our volunteers who gave up their own time to help run the event; Mr Ian Clark, Mrs Sutcliffe, Mrs Hardy-Griffiths, Mrs Smith’s two daughters, Mrs Ellis and Mrs White.

Finally, well done to Mrs Kendall for organising another fantastic Sports Day.

Miss Elliott is a Teaching Assistant at Berry Hill Primary School, she is a key member of staff by supporting the way the school links to the local community. As a school we are very supportive of the local Park, King George V Park. Due to a lack of space we cannot plant anymore trees or plant bulbs on the school site, so we do it over at the Park. This a great learning opportunity for the children and we visit the Park whenever we can. We recently visited to plant a community orchard, re-sow a wildflower meadow and to design a tree carving. Without Miss Elliott's support to help organise visits they would not happen. She checks that we have all permissions in place and that the purposes for the visit is going to support children's learning. Without her, our links to the community to support the local environment would be much less. School is now moving along on a journey of looking at ways it can reduce energy in school by being an Eco School. The work we do on the Park will be a crucial part to our application, so Miss Elliott's support will be even more important. We are very proud to announce that Miss Elliott has recently been awarded the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Award by the Chad.

 

We would also like to thank Corinna Brown for her continued support at Berry Hill.                                                

Foundation 2 Sports Day Tuesday 21^st June 2016

What a brilliant sports day it was!

Thank you so much to all of the spectators who came along to support the children. Your smiley faces and encouragement were much appreciated to all those taking part. 

A big thank you also goes to our year 6 children from Miss Pickering’s class who helped to run the activities. They were brilliant and we couldn’t have ran the event without them.

Finally well done to all of the children for their effort. You did a great job! Blue was a lucky colour… well done to Blue Team 1 and Blue Team 2 for winning this year.

Y3 visited Perlethorpe Study Centre on Friday 13 May.  The focus of the visit was the Vikings, which is the topic for this term.

School Council are working with Corinna Brown, our extended school's coordinator, to attract funds to purchase new playground equipment.  They are going to try to raise money from selling unwanted toys.  The sale will take place on Wednesday 10 February.  Please send in any unwanted toys, games, jigsaws and books by Wednesday 27 January.

Come along to the e Safety training for parents on Monday 11 January from 5pm - 6pm.  Session run by Lorna Naylor, NCC anti bullying coordinator.

All parents and carers are welcome to attend the Carol Service at St Peter's Church with their children on Tuesday 15 December.  Rev. Fudger will be leading the service which starts at 7pm and finishes at 8pm.  The Berry Hill Choir will be taking part - letters have already gone out to parents/ carers with information. The service goes out live on Radio Mansfield.
