  • Wearing Blue for Autism Awareness

    Mon 26 Mar 2018

At Berry Hill this week we will be taking part in:

    ‘Autism Awareness Week’

This year’s Autism Awareness week takes place from Monday 26th March to Monday 2nd April.

We are hoping to help the Autism Awareness organisation build awareness and help make a difference for people with Autism and their families, a cause close to our hearts.

The children will find out more during circle time activities, then on Thursday 29th March the children will be asked to wear blue for their non-uniform end of term day. The PTFA will be collecting donations for non-uniform as usual and they are donating this to support our sensory room development.

     For more information visit: http://www.autism.org.uk/about.aspx

Thanks you so much for your support and we look forward to raising awareness and having fun.

    Sports Relief Week 17-23.03.18

We’ve all had a great, sporty week at school and have been full of energy! From completing our Sport Relief Miles to jogging on the spot whenever the whistle blew during Friday’s assembly, we’ve not stopped exercising!

It’s been great to see the children from nursery to year 6 making the most of our ‘Tom Daley Challenges’ and trying out lots of fun activities during their playtimes. During PE lessons, classes have supported and encouraged each other to record 8 laps of our playground to achieve their Sport Relief Miles. Great teamwork and dedication!

A big thank you for all of the £1 contributions and for dressing up in your favourite sports clothing on Friday. We had swimmers, horse-riders, footballers, gymnasts, dancers, martial arts, bikers and golfers to name just a few! J

Thank you to everyone involved for getting behind such a good cause! Keep up the good work and keep exercising!

Nottingham Trent University Visit – 23.03.18

On Friday 23rd March, a very lucky group of children were invited to take part in an Enrichment Day at Nottingham Trent University at their Clifton Campus.

During the day, the children worked with the students, who are training to be teachers, and took part in lots of creative and interesting art and DT activities.

The art tasks focused on sewing. The children learned how to sew some really tricky stitches and were able to design and make their own house or Easter egg!

The DT activities were all about movement and forces. Some children had to work out how to use wheels and elastic bands to make a model car move and at the end of the session they had a race to see whose ideas had worked the best! The other group of children worked together to make a flying trapeze game where they had to work out how to use elastic bands and wheels to connect to the handle to make their character flip over!

The children all said that they really enjoyed both the art and the DT activities and I could tell that they were having a wonderful time. They were all fully engaged in the tasks, listening to the students, following instructions and really being Berry Hill role models!

The children were also able to experience a bit of what university life is like during their lunch break when they were taken on a tour of the campus and shown some of the amazing facilities such as a lecture theatre, the library, the sports centre, the new science and technology building and the halls of residence blocks. They were also treated to lunch in the student cafeteria which most of the children said was the highlight of their day!

The whole day was marvellous and we are all really grateful to have been able to take part in it. Thank you to Mr Ashton at Abbey Primary School for making the arrangements and for inviting us to join in. All of the children said that they would love to go again next year if another visit is organised and I agree! The children that took part in the visit this year behaved absolutely wonderfully. They were a credit to themselves and to our school and I was extremely proud of them all!

  • PTFA Eco Collaboration

    Wed 14 Mar 2018

To build on our school’s success in obtaining the Bronze & Silver Eco Schools award and to raise money for school projects, the PTFA are working in collaboration with Bag 2 School, a company that specialises in good quality second hand clothing that can be re-used. We have arranged to make a collection from school on 23rd April 2018.

Children will be given a Bag 2 School bag in the coming weeks and we are asking for donations of clean, good quality, clothing, including shoes, hats, belts, handbags and soft toys.

We will be paid by weight and the more bags we fill, the more money we will raise for school.

More details will follow. Please keep an eye out for posters around school.

  • Science Special

    Sat 10 Mar 2018
As part of British Science week, we will be hosting a special Science Day in school, entitled ‘Science in the Real World’ on Thursday 15th March. Across the whole of the school, children will be taking part in fun, practical investigations with a real-life link. Children will be answering questions such as, ‘Which brand of nappy is the most absorbent?’, ‘Which biscuit is best for dunking?’ and ‘Which supermarket has the strongest carrier bag?’

The day promises to be full of fun as well as providing the children with excellent learning opportunities!
