  • A hot week ahead!

    Sun 18 Jun 2017 Mrs Quant-Epps

It looks like we're in for some hot weather this week so please make sure your children come into school with their sun cream, hats and bottles of water.

On Tuesday and Wednesday there will be a long walk in the sun as the year 6 classes will take it in turns to learn about making pizzas as part of their enterprise research. F2 have their Sports Day on Wednesday afternoon (1.30pm) and the year 6 children will be helping with this. Friday sees KS2 Sports Day (1.15pm) and again the children will need protecting from the sun.

Also this week we have NSPCC workshops for years 5 and 6 on Wednesday and Thursday morning. Representatives from the NSPCC will be collecting sponsor money from us on Thursday and we'll let you know how much we have raised for Buddy's Workout as soon as we know. There has been so much support for this and it's a big thank you from us.

On Monday, Samworth Church Academy uniform staff will be coming in to measure the year 6 pupils in preparation for September.

What exciting times! Thank you to those who have brought in certificates about achievements out of school to share with us - we look forward to hearing more from them all. There is so much talent in our school and it is great to find out more about what the children are up to.

    Sun 11 Jun 2017
This week is our Healthy Schools Week at Berry Hill and all of our children will be involved from F2 to Year 6! We will be having many visitors to the school including Thackeray Dentists, the Everyone Health Team and Freed Beeches Body Confidence. Some of our pupils will also have the opportunity to make out of school visits to Tesco for Farm to Fork and Oak Tree Leisure Centre for sports sessions. We will also be keeping fit in our sponsored workout sessions supporting the NSPCC. Children can take part in the five challenges which are: Have breakfast, Have 5 a day, Drink plenty of water, Get active and Try something new. The British Nutrition Foundation are also running some live webinars to kick off the week.
  • NSPCC fundraiser

    Sun 11 Jun 2017

Following the NSPCC's visit to Berry Hill, the children will have brought home sponsor forms. This week we will be doing workouts for Buddy during our PE lessons to raise money for this worthwhile cause. The children have been asked to collect some sponsors (although not strangers) and to post contributions in collection boxes around school by Thursday 22nd June. Thank you for your continued support.

  • Netball News

Tue 23 May 2017 Mrs Kendall

    Year 5/6 Netball League

Samworth Academy hosted a year 5/6 Netball League over the last couple of weeks on Tuesday 16th May and Tuesday 23rd May. The event was organised by the Mansfield Primary School Sport Partnership which our school is part of.

We were lucky enough to have so many girls wanting to play that we were able to enter 2 teams!

The two weeks couldn’t have been more different…one week was pouring rain, windy and cold weather, whilst the second week was blue skies and lovely, warm sunshine! Luckily, our supporters stayed to watch the girls on both occasions, so a BIG thank you to them!

The netball that was played on both nights was really good and our girls improved with every match that they played. It was great to see all of the girls play as a supportive team and in a respectful way against the other schools. Overall, our teams finished in 4th and 6th positions.

Thank you to all of the girls for a great couple of weeks and for some fantastic training sessions too.

From a proud Mrs Kendall and Mrs Gascoigne. J

  • Swimming Gala

Mon 22 May 2017 Mrs Kendall

    Swimming Gala Finals

Well done to our Key Stage 2 swimming squad who qualified for the county swimming finals which were held on Monday 22nd May at Hucknall Leisure Centre.

Our squad of 18 children were a credit to the school. They behaved brilliantly, took part competitively and were supportive of the other schools taking part.

The children raced really well in a fast-paced and competitive swimming pool! There were many fantastic swimmers and our children produced some great performances which they should all be really proud of.

A big thank you to Mrs Cope and Mrs Bexon for attending the gala with us and a big thank you to all of our wonderful supporters who were sat on the side cheering us on every stroke of the way! Your support at both galas has been brilliant and has meant such a lot to myself and the children. Thank you for cheering us on!

Overall, our team finished in 5th position out of the 6 schools who competed in these county finals. We were just pipped to 4th place by 2 points!

A fantastic effort by everyone involved. Thank you!

A very proud Mrs Kendall J
