We have had an amazing time on our trip to Derby Museum today, we held stone spear heads which are over half a million years old, made Stone Age jewellery and clothing, made a clay sundial etched with Stone Age symbols... and so much more!!! Phew we are tired out now, thank goodness it's almost the summer break!

We investigated how sound changes across distance and discovered that the sound of a cymbal being struck sounds 40 decibels less when it is 37 metres away. Then we created telephones out of paper cups and string to explore how sound vibrations travel across long distances.

Drumming club performance at Asquith

Meet the Berry Jam Hot Pockets - Berry Hill's very own steel band! We loved performing to our parents and carers and teaching them a thing or two!

Investigating how pitch changes by making our own panpipes using paper straws

Investigating how the amplitude and pitch of different instruments can be changed

Putting our creative skills to use designing our own clocks to support our learning about time

Warming up for our PE session dancing to some of our favourite tracks on Just Dance

It was great to see so many parents and carers at our open afternoon, thank you for your fantastic feedback!

Our Stone Age themed topic information stations were educational and fun!

We enjoyed debating the importance of plastic. Do we NEED plastic or is it just convenient?

Researching sound in a scavenger hunt

Finding out about night and day are created whilst learning about time

The year 4 children will be taking part in a pilot times table test between 10th-28th June, this involves answering random times table (multiplication onlyquestions. The test is administered electronically, on the Ipads and the children will only have six seconds to answer each question. Could the children please be practising their times tables in preparation for the test. The TT Rockstars resource is great as it is timed. You may find the link below useful to read more information about the test. Please do come and speak to Mrs Durham, Miss Matthews or Mrs Stirling-Wood if you have any questions.

Where is the noisiest area in school? We did an investigation with our data logging equipment to find out!

The children's latest creative project organised by the very talented Mrs Maker, we love the use of warm colours and the contrast of the bold writing

In English, a lesson on Facts and Opinions turned into a debate about whether the controversial statement 'We need plastic' was a fact or an opinion!

The year 4 children created a human number line to help them to place and round different amounts of money

The children have been researching endangered species and considering how changes to their habitats have impacted on their survival.

What a way to end the first Summer half term, Miss Matthews and Mrs Durham are so proud of this young man!

Look at the final product in the latest amazing art and design project in year 4! We love these creations!

Some of our year 4 children making the most of this wonderful opportunity and rocking out at our after school drumming club

Class 4JM/TD were awarded the Headteacher's Award this week for being spotted being brilliant around school by lots of members of staff. A great team effort and a good example of collaboration.

We are really proud of our children's achievements out of school as well as in school!

A sneaky peak at our latest art project with Mrs Maker.

Invertebrates investigation; more outdoor fun identifying different specimens of invertebrates in the different habitats around the school grounds

Green Flag Award efforts; we have enjoyed compiling evidence towards achieving the prestigious Green Flag award and wanted to showcase some of the year 4 efforts, learning about biodiversity, habitats and having a fun filled adventure along the way!

Our brand new shiny topic display ready to be filled with the children's fantastic efforts

First Summer term Headteacher Award winner

Cue the music... Cue the lights... It is time you met the Merry Men in tights

Ancient Egypt Topic Homework

Year 4 had a blast watching Horrible Histories.
After studying the artist Lowry, the children created self portraits in his style, a calendar that we are sure you will take pride in all year round.
The children in 4JMTD designed and created a light up decoration, using their scientific knowledge to select components and build their own circuits with switches. We think they look great!

The children learnt lots of very important messages during Road Safety Awareness Week. Class 4JM/TD really enjoyed playing the Your Move game which reminded them of the STOP, LOOK, Listen rules and other tips on how to stay safe whilst out and about.

Wouldn't you agree that the children look fantastic in their own choice of clothing!!! They certainly expressed themselves and their unique personalities whilst raising money for Children in Need.

On Thursday 15th November the children in class 4JM/TD created some still images to convey the messages we have been learning about during anti-bullying week: Stop, Speak and Support and Choose Respect. The children did a fantastic job of using body language and facial expressions to create still and silent scenarios with some powerful and dramatic effects.

Whilst learning about Remembrance and celebrating one hundred years since the end of World War I, the year 4 children really enjoyed working with a theatre group, who visited school. Thank you to all of the parents that came along, we hope you enjoyed it too!

On Friday 9th November 2018 year 4 conducted a remembrance ceremony at our remembrance bench, in the school premises. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our amazing war themed poetry and our poppy inspired art. We also showed our respects with a two-minute silence. It really was an honour and a privilege to be a part of it!

On Tuesday 6th November 2018 year 4 visited Mansfield Library as part of our remembrance topic. The children enjoyed learning about the war, which really inspired their war themed poetry and artwork. The dressing up was fun too!

On Friday 9th we became a united sea of blue to show our solidarity and support for anti-bullying awareness! We all choose respect!

For our Harvest assemblies the year 4 children made Autumnal themed artwork. We experimented using handprints, wax leaf rubbings and leaf stamps. We hope you were just as impressed with the final pieces as we are! Watch out Picasso we have some budding artists!

We wore odd socks to school to remind ourselves that we are all the same but we are all different too! An opportunity to celebrate the ways in which we are united and our own special individual traits and characteristics. We respect ourselves and each other at Berry Hill!

Roald Dahl Day

Beware! There’s an enormous crocodile on the loose. You can see just how much fun the children in class 4JM/TD had coming to school dressed as their favourite characters to mark Roald Dahl day.
