Mathsy Monday

Thanks to everyone who came along for Mathsy Monday. Year 2 had a great start to our working week with our Maths brains all warmed up nicely on Monday morning! The children had lots of fun completing their challenges and they continued to work hard with their Maths for the rest of the morning too! Have a look at some of our photos!

Mrs Kendall's Class Visit to Mansfield Museum

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside...!

What a fun day we all had during our seaside experience visit to Mansfield Museum. The weather outside was typical British seaside weather...pouring with rain, so we were pleased to be inside and do lots of learning with Geoff, our teacher for the day.

We enjoyed time around the museum, dressing up, eating gelato, a Punch and Judy puppet show, games and a visit to the pier activities. We even finished the day with a look through the 'Shaky Shrimp' submarine!

Enjoy some of our photos.

Mrs Price's Class Visit to Mansfield Museum

We're all going on a summer holiday...!

Mrs Price's class had a super day for our seaside experience at Mansfield Museum with Geoff, the museum's teacher. We had lots of fun touring the museum, learning about the seaside, playing games, watching Punch and Judy, eating hokey pokey, visiting the seaside pier and even going under the sea in the Shaky Shrimp!

Have a look at some of our photos.

Year 2 had a great time on Tuesday when a visitor from the RSPB came to work with us for our Bioblitz session. We learnt lots about nature around our school, finding lots of different types of trees, flowers and birds. One of our favourite activities was our bug hunt where we were able to find all sorts of different bugs, brush them into our magnifying pots to view them and set them free back into their habitat. It was fun finding so many different creatures!

Thank you!

Both year 2 classes have worked incredibly hard with their year 2 SATs work. We really appreciate all of the children's hard work and effort that they have shown both at school and at home. Thank you very much to all of the parents and carers who have supported the children with work at home to help them to be as confident as possible with their special booklets.

A well-deserved class reward took place in both classes on the last day of the half-term. Mrs Price's Class enjoyed a film afternoon, whilst Mrs Kendall's Class enjoyed some sports games and a picnic out in the beautiful sunshine!

We hope that the children have a super week's rest during their half-term break. smiley

George and the Dragon

After last week's Dragon mystery, year 2 have been inspired to find out more about dragons. This week, both classes have enjoyed reading the story of 'George and the Dragon' . They've then started to learn the story using text maps and some children even volunteered to perform the story to their class!

Have a look at us enjoying the story.

DRAGON MYSTERY!

Year 2 had a shock when they arrived at school on Tuesday morning...their classrooms were a huge mess and their were large footprints and scales on the floor! The children searched for evidence and think that maybe a dragon came for a sneaky visit to school over the Bank Holiday Weekend! Have a look at the clues for yourself!

Here are some photos of Mrs Kendall's class enjoying their Family Friday reading time this week. What a lovely way to spend a Friday morning, reading with visiting grown ups and friends in the class. It's great to share stories together!
This week, Mrs Price's class were busy creating algorithms for their computing work. Here they are, busy on the playground with their clipboards creating their set of instructions and with their partner acting as their 'Test Bot' to see if their algorithm worked!

Year 2 have been busy planting bean seeds during our Science work. We're going to be comparing the growing conditions of each seed and the impact they have on the growth of the seed over the next few weeks. We're going to:

1. Give one seed water and sunlight.

2. Give one seed water but no sunlight.

3. Give one seed sunlight but no water.

4. Give one seed no water or sunlight.

We're looking forward to finding out what happens and if our predictions are going to be right!

Year 2 have had a brilliant day 'lighting school up blue' for autism awareness week. We've also had lots of fun during our class rewards, enjoying lots of making time!
Year 2 had a really interesting afternoon with our RE Experience Visitors where we learnt about life at a Church and why Christians celebrate Easter.

Red Nose Day

This week has been Science week and year 2 have been making paper planes to test how long they fly for. We had great fun investigating if they stay in the air longer than a crunched up piece of A4 paper! Have a look at our photos!

Year 2 had a great day celebrating World Book Day 2019! They all dressed up and were unrecognisable as different book characters! The class enjoyed lots of opportunities to 'Share a story' and everyone had an enjoyable time.

Fire of London Day

What a brilliant day we all had, going back in time to 1666!

It was great to see so many of the children dressed up in clothes from the time of the Great Fire and we really enjoyed all of our fun activities.

We had a visit from Partake Theatre Company who worked with us to go back to 1666 and we pretended that we were in London at the time of the Great Fire. We learnt about how the fire started, how it spread and how long it lasted for. Our children were brilliant as King Charles II and the baker Thomas Farynor.

Later in the day, we made small and large model houses from the time of the Great Fire. We also enjoyed baking, just like the bakery from Pudding Lane except ours didn’t catch fire! Phew!

Enjoy our photos!

Roald Dahl Day

What a brilliant day we had to celebrate what would have been Roald Dahl’s 102nd birthday!

All of our class turned up for school dressed in different outfits for this special occasion. We had several children wearing yellow, which was Roald Dahl’s favourite colour and then we had lots of different characters in the classroom for the day!

We all enjoyed plenty of Roald Dahl stories and activities throughout the day and are looking forward to more themed days in the future!
