Reading
We encourage you to read at home at least three times a week with your child in order to help to develop their reading fluency. We ask that you record this in your child's reading diary so that their efforts can be recognised by their class teacher. We reward children who have read at least three times each week with a raffle ticket which enters them into a prize draw at the end of each half term giving them the opportunity to win a book for them to keep.
In class, reading focuses on comprehension skills including being able to understand vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, recall and how to summarise. These skills will be presented to the children using the acronym VIPERS. It would be really useful if you could ask your child questions about what they are reading to support them with this at home. We have attached a VIPERS document below to support you to structure these questions.
