Netball Match Report vs St.Philips Tuesday 13th March 2018
Yippee…the spring time is coming and the daylight hours are getting longer, which only means one thing…netball season is here! J
We were very proud to host our first netball match vs St.Philips. The girls were very excited before the game and there were lots of nervous giggles. At Berry Hill, we’re lucky enough to have a busy, popular netball club and so only a few of the girls were able to represent us in the match whilst other members of the squad waited for future matches. St Philips began very strongly, passing the ball quickly and scoring several goals during the first quarter. It took us a little longer to find our rhythm, get used to our positions and remember everything from our training! Just before the quarter finished, we found a flow of accurate passes and the ball landed with Serenity in front of goal. She aimed and took her opportunity, Berry Hill had scored a goal!
After the first quarter was over, we calmed down a little, marked closer and managed our positions better. St.Philips still had the upper hand and were strong in attack, with their goal shooter taking her chances well (this being the reason that our team voted her their star player)!
The second half of the match was greatly improved and the final two quarters were competitive and enjoyable to watch. We grew in confidence, worked well as a team and put in 100% effort. No more goals were scored during the final two quarters of the match which clearly showed our improvement in defending, keeping hold of the ball and attacking the opposition.
At full time, it was great to see both teams shake hands with smiley faces and congratulate one another on their game. Their team were very complimentary towards Serenity’s play and they also picked out Aimee for her hard-work and commitment.
Thank you to all of the girls and their supporters who came along to watch. A special thanks to Milly-Ann for her brilliant attitude of cheering on the team, even when she was disappointed not to be playing with a broken foot! A 1-9 loss gives us lots to build on for our future matches and we can’t wait! See you all at training next Wednesday! A very proud Mrs Kendall and Mrs Gascoigne J
