By year 4 we know that our children are fluent readers and the word reading strand is not a skill set that we need to teach explicitly. However, our focus is on comprehension skills including  being able to understand vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, recall and how to summarise. These skills are presented to the children using the acronym VIPERS. It would be really useful if you could ask your child questions about what they are reading to support them with this at home. We have attached a VIPERS document below to support you to structure these questions.
